A LITTLE ABOUT STEPHANIE

Without the means for formal training, working in a used bookstore in my early 20"s set the stage for endless lessons in art and technique.  Books were borrowed and bought so I could learn from some of the greats.  It was the perfect opportunity to time travel with masters such as Mucha, Bakst, Beardsley, and Parrish.  The Glasgow Girls style was hauntingly compelling in developing my Art Nouveau Style.  Composition was taught by the photographic genius of Alfred Stieglitz, Anne Brigman and Julia Margaret Cameron.  Master mentors from the past.  They came to live within me and I was insatiable to learn.

In 2002 I stepped  through the doors of Comic-Con in San Diego to exhibit for the first time and continued annually for 5 magickal years.  That first humble year, I eagerly walked the endless halls of Comic-Con, portfolio in hand, seeking out favorite artists, anxious to share my work and absorb their wisdom and direction.  Charles Vess and Michael Kaluta enthusiastically affirmed and encouraged my fragile wings to spread wider and soar.  From those humble beginnings of a small pegboard space, my presentation and art grew with each passing year.  Those early years helped propel me into a lasting commitment to the craft of creation and a firm belief in the strength of my gifted heart, soul, and hands.   From there my professional presence began to expand into the industry, developing a solid treasured fan base and deep lasting connections with peers throughout the profession.  I'm deeply grateful to those modern-day masters for their mentorship. by the end of the first phase of my career, my art had hung and sold in 3 uniquely different galleries located in Santa Fe, New Mexico.

2008 brought a series of life challenging events that put publicly showcasing my art on hold.  The next decade was invested in painting for my healing and personal growth.  Reaching  deep within to reconnect with that magickal, mystical wonder and love for this precious life, art began to slowly buoy my spirit and restore me to me. Mediums expanded from watercolors to acrylics on wood.  The subjects morphed from mythic women and faeries to the magickal world of nature, reflected in playful animals, to the majesty of the winged world.  My art dove deep within for over a decade of personal exploration and unveiling.  As I arose from the depth and emerged into the light, my art unfolded into new birth.

In 2021, I began sharing art with the public again.  Originals as well as prints have been offered over social media.  After 30 years of immersion and dance with art, it continues to evolve and morph with new techniques, while vision, inspiration, and exploration birth each piece into being. Still inspired by the mentors of those early years, myth and whimsy continue to infuse themselves into my art.

In this pivotal time of pressure on our sacred planet Earth, my heart beats in rhythm with nature's.  Sacred flora and fauna call to be honored, to bring attention to their essential nature and cherished presence.  May the awareness, magick, and awe that my art brings to those that connect with Earth's precious message ultimately develop into  partnering with organizations that aid in preserving this magnificent planet and all those who jointly inhabit her.  Thus, my creative love and journey come full circle. Fairytales are blended with nature and the mythic merges with gifts from our living Earth.  It is my hope and joy to bring a pure sense of warmth, grace, safety, honor and healing into the hearts and homes of those who adopt one of these precious creations.  May their hearts be filled and overflowing with wonder and awe.
